ACID REFLUX SYMPTOMS
Acid Reflux, also known as GERD(gastroesophageal reflux disease), can cause many varying symptoms among different people. The most common symptom is heartburn, a burning feeling that starts in the chest just behind the breastbone and happens right after eating. Sometimes it only lasts a few minutes, or it can persist for several hours. This is caused by a weakened esophageal sphincter that allows stomach acid into the esophagus causing it to burn. Another main symptom would be acid regurgitating into the mouth because of overeating or bending down after eating a meal.
Some people can also experience pain in the chest, hoarseness in the morning, or difficulty swallowing. You may feel like you have food stuck in your throat or like you are choking or your throat is tight. Acid reflux can also cause a dry cough and bad breath.
There are many other acid reflux symptoms, and they vary for each individual. Some of these common symptoms are:
- Chest pain when the person bends over or is lying down, particularly after eating
- An acidic taste in the back of the throat or mouth
- Feeling like the food you ate is coming back into the mouth
- Eating food causes symptoms to worsen
- Belching
- Wheezing
Acid Reflux is often mistaken for a heart problem. Usually, pain caused by a heart problem is usually triggered by a physical activity. Acid reflux is not commonly triggered by physical activity. Its always best, however, to seek medical attention If you think you have any signs of a heart problem.
